CB Films Writers’ Room

Learn filmmaking by making films.

A collaborative film lab for writers, directors, producers, performers and crew-minded learners who want to move an idea from conversation to screen.

Writers Room collaborative filmmaking discussion

The programme

A working film lab.

The Writers’ Room is built around making, not passive instruction. Participants enter from different departments, develop stories together, learn how decisions move across a film, and contribute to work that can progress toward production, screenings and future film-market development.

You do not need to arrive as a complete filmmaker. You do need curiosity, reliability and a willingness to collaborate.

How it works

From an idea to something we can screen.

Discover

Find the story, question or observation worth pursuing and understand the people around the idea.

Develop

Shape screenplay, research, visual language, production thinking and the practical path forward.

Make

Work across departments, solve real production problems and turn preparation into filmed material.

Screen

Watch the work with an audience, learn from the result and decide what deserves a next life.

Current cohorts

Choose the room you can work from.

Our current public cohort structure includes Chandigarh and Delhi. The same application can be used to indicate interest in either or both.

Mentors & facilitators

People are here to support the work.

Profiles are intentionally presented in greyscale across CB Films. The emphasis is on the community, the process and the films rather than personality-led promotion.

Where you can contribute

Enter through a department. Learn across the film.

Applicants can identify up to three areas of interest. Department choices help us understand where you want to begin; they do not lock you into one craft forever.

What matters in the room

Good filmmaking is collective behaviour.

Show up prepared

Small-budget work depends on dependable collaborators, not oversized resources.

Respect the story

Departments serve the film. Craft choices should clarify the story rather than compete with it.

Share the learning

The room works when knowledge moves across people and participants grow through practice.

FAQs

Before you apply.

Do I need professional film experience?

No. Relevant experience helps, but the Writers’ Room is designed around practical learning and contribution. Tell us what you know, what you can do and what you want to learn.

Can I apply for more than one department?

Yes. The application is designed to let you indicate up to three areas of interest.

Can I choose Chandigarh or Delhi?

Yes. You can express interest in Chandigarh, Delhi or both, depending on the cohort options available when you apply.

Is this only a classroom programme?

No. The programme is project-led. The intention is to move from discussion and development into practical filmmaking and screening wherever the project and cohort are ready.

Will every idea become a film?

No. Development includes selection, revision and practical evaluation. Some ideas may move forward, some may change significantly, and some may remain development exercises.
